The Electricity at Work Regulations

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 contain a comprehensive list of legal requirements designed to prevent the risk of personal injury or death from the use of electricity at all places of work irrespective of size and number of employees.

The regulations require that all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent danger. HSE guidance states that regular inspection and testing is an essential part of any maintenance programme. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (Regulation 6) also require that work equipment which may be subject to deterioration liable to result in a dangerous situation requires inspection at suitable intervals.

BS7671: Requirements for Electrical Installations

The current version BS7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations is the accepted general guidance for the design and maintenance of electrical installations.  Other documentation relating to the use of electricity in specific industries supplements BS7671 and should be read in conjunction with this document.
